Death of D. R. Brown
On Christmas day at 3 p. m. at his home five miles south of Nevada, occurred the death of D. R. Brown. Mr. Brown was one of the pioneer citizens of Story county. He was born in Fauquier Co., Va., September 16, 1820. He emigrated to Ohio in the fall of 1833. April 16, 1845 he was married to Nancy E. Adams. No children were born of this union but during the sojourn together they took into their home seven children and reared the to manhood and womanhood. In the year 1857 the family moved to Iowa. In 1841 Mr. Brown united with the church of Christ. He was a firm believer in the plea of the disciples and contributed to the general work of the church. The churches at Maxwell and Nevada have been blessed by his liberal offerings. At the time of this death his membership was with the church at Maxwell. Mr. Brown has been confined to his bed almost constantly for twenty years and during this long period of suffering he manifested marvelous patience and Christian fortitude. Certainly a good man has fallen. A large concourse of neighbors and friends were in attendance at the funeral which was held at the residence of the deceased, Saturday morning, at 10:30 o'clock. The sermon was delivered by Eld. Chas. D. Hougham pastor of the Christian church of this city. Following the services the body was interred in the Nevada cemetery.
