From Story County Watchman December 5, 1902

DIED.--Saml. Oaks, who has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Reed*, Thursday morning was found dead in his bed when she wne to call him during the morning hour. His age was about 82 years. He formerly lived at Illinois Grove, and the remains will be taken there for interment but as to when the funeral will be held we are not advised. He has been somewhat feeble for some time and while the end had been looked forward to it was totally unexpected at this time. The remains will be shipped to Zearing tomorrow and interred in the cemetery at Illinois Grove. Two of his sons reached here this forenoon and will look after the matter.
