On Sunday last close to Iowa Center two little girls, on the daughter of and the other an adopted daughter of S. N. Mitchell, were drowned by venturing upon the ice over a pond in the neighborhood of their home, their names being Misses Lottie and Tottie. Three other children, two boys and a girl, were upon the ice, but saved themselves, while the two sank to rise no more. The alarm was given and soon work of recovery was commenced which was successful after some time. The ages of the girls were about twelve years. The funeral services were held under the ministration of Rev. Urbana and the remains laid to rest to await the last call.
