From Story County Watchman October 10, 1902

Jacob Horner died at his residence in this ciy on Wednesday after a lingering illness aged 68 years and two months. He was a native of Indiana but came early to Story county and settled at Walnut Grove where he lived many years. He enlisted in the 10th Iowa infantry and served during the rebellion. He leaves a wife but no children to look to the future, but several step-children. The funeral was conducted from his residence yesterday under the ministration of Rev. Sanford and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery to await the last call. He was a member of the G. A. R. in this city as well as the Masonic order.
