From Story County Watchman January 10, 1902

OBITUARY.

On Monday last this part of Iowa was called upon to mourn the loss of one of its oldest settlers both as to age and length of residence in Story county. Mrs. Mary Moran died at the residence of her son John in Grant township at the age of about 75 years. She was born in Connaught, Ireland, and came to this country at an early age. She was married to Patrick Moran in Ohio, and they moved to Story county something over 40 years ago and soon settled upon thir farm in Grant township where she peacefully passed to her rest. She raised a family of five boys and two girls of which one girl and four boys survive. The funeral services were held at the Catholic church of which she was a devoted and consistent member and was laid to rest in the Nevada Cemetery with the rites of the denomination. Coming to this locality at such an early day she suffered all the hardships and privations of the early inhabitants and all that implies. She stood high in the esteem of her many friends and the turn out at the last rites were many and procession one of the longest as was to be expected. The family extend to those who so kindly assisted in the observance of the last tokens of this world their sincere thanks and their due appreciation thereof.
