From Story County Watchman November 1, 1901

J. W. Emery, a stock dealer of State Center, who formerly resided in this locality met with an accident on the railroad near Dunkerton on Wednesday in which he was killed. He was riding in the caboose of the freight when the train was ditched and went into the creek pinned in the mud by a timber passing through his head.
