From Story County Watchman September 27, 1901

John Maroney an old and respected citizen living three miles west of Colo dropped dead from heart disease while working in the field near his home last Tuesday. Mr. Maroney has long been a resident of this place and was esteemed and respected by all who knew him. The funeral took place this morning. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family in this their deepest bereavement.

The funeral was held today by Father Nichols of the Catholic society and the attendance was very large. The remains were laid to rest in their cemetery at this point.
