Mrs. Mary M. Scott died in Marshalltown last Sunday aged about 75 years and the remains were cared for in that city quite a number of our people going there to attend the last rites. She was the mother of Mrs. John Hoggatt* of this city and formerly lived here and is well known to the older residents.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "Mrs. John Hoggatt" was Susan "Susie" (Evans) Hoggatt who married John B. Hoggatt in Marshall County, Iowa 29 March 1875. Susan was the daughter of James Evans and Mariam (Helms) Evans who married in Muskingum County, Ohio 14 February 1843. The Evans family lived in Timber Creek Twp., Marshall County, Iowa in 1870 but James Evans (1806-1875) died in 1875 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. By the 1880 census, Mariam is remarried to William Scott still in Timber Creek Township but appears to be without any of the Evans children.
