From Story County Watchman June 7, 1901

Ames Intelligencer: ....Wellington Briley was killed at Council Bluffs last Thursday. He was a Northwestern brakeman and was run over by the cars, living but a few minutes after the accident occurred. Wellington Briley was the son of Ira Briley an early settler in this part of the country and grew to manhood at his fathers home north of Ontario. He was about twenty-five years old and leaves a wife and numerous relatives to mourn his death. The funeral held at Boone Saturday was attended by relatives at Ames and Ontario.

Mesdames Geo. Briley, O. Briley, Nate Briley and other relatives here attended the funeral of Ira Briley's oldest son in Boone. He was a brakeman on the railroad and was killed by freight train.
