Monday morning Mrs. Anna Bates died in this city aged 74 years. She is one of the old residents of this county, her husband who preceded to the great beyond, Sam'l Bates, having been county recorder in the county for years. She was born in Ireland but came to this country early in life an din 1867 was married to Mr. Bates with whom she lived many years. The last rites were held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon after which the remains were laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery. Her nephew, Geo. James and daughter have been in attendance upon her for some time seeing that all possible was done for her comfort.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Anna James was firstly married to Duncan McGregor on 1 January 1855 in Hamilton County, Ohio. She married secondly Samuel Bates on 2 November 1867 in Story County, Iowa. Her newphew, George James, was the son of Anna James' brother, John James, who also lived in Story County.
