From Story County Watchman November 9, 1900

One by one the veterans of the civil war are dropping off and today we have to note that Phillip Ream of Co. B Second Iowa Cavalry has been called to the great beyond to receive the reward to be given to all in some form. He had lived to an age unusually allotted to mankind reaching well toward his 82nd year. He was one of the men to whom township citizens looked whenever they desired the facts in reliable shape. He was taken sick only a short time before the call came and on Sunday the end came. The funeral was held Wednesday and the remains interred in the cemetery at Cambridge. A married daughter from Wisconsin and another from St. Louis were present at the services arriving in good time for them. Ye locals remember him as being in the same battalion in the regiment and being present ------ a right place with him, and is sure that he has now gone where the reward for good deeds done on earth will be given.
