Story City Messenger: Carl Johnson son of Andrew Johnson living southwest of town, died last evening of typhoid fever. About a month ago he was hurt by falling off a gravel train but he improved from this, then he was attacked by typhoid fever.

Story City Herald: ....Carl M. Johnson, living 2 miles north of Gilbert, occured Monday evening at 6:30 p. m. Mr. Johnson was about 25 years of age, and had in all been sick about four weeks, typhoid fever causing his death.
