From Story County Watchman November 10, 1899

Word was received here Saturday that Ira Horton had just died of typhoid fever at his residence in Creston, Iowa, and upon getting the dispatch Mrs. Harper and her son, John, started for that place arriving the next morning. Mr. Horton was formerly a resident of this town and well known to many of our people of today.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "Mrs. Harper" was Ira Horton's mother-in-law, Eliza Jane (Horner) Harper. Ira Horton married her daughter, Alice, in 1884 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
