Mrs. Elizabeth McCartney born in Dansville, New York July 29, 1821, and died May 11th, 1899, aged 78 years 9 months and 12 days. She moved when a child with her parents to Illinois where she was married to Edwin Hefley 1847. To this union was born four children John and William Hefley of this place; Robert Hefley of Humbolt county and one daughter, Mrs. Thos. Wyatt of Norton, Kan. In 1856 with her husband and children she came to Story county, Iowa. In 1882 she moved to Kansas homestead, her husband having been killed in the civil war, Jan. 6, 1863. In 1892 she returned to Colo which has since been her home. She united in her early days with the M. E. church and always in the faith to the time of her death. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by the former pastor Rev. John Elliot of Boone and the remains were laid to rest in the Colo cemetery.
On Thursday last week Mrs. Hefley, mother of Hefley Bros., of this place died at the advanced age of 77 years and the funeral took place Saturday unter the ministration of Rev. Elliott of the M. E. church of Boone, after which the remains were laid away to await the call of the resurrection. She leaves a grown up family of sons and one daughter who look to her example for future guidance with an assurance that she will be patiently awaiting them in the promised land.
