From Story County Watchman January 27, 1899

DIED--James A. Fry, an old citizen, living near East Indian Creek about six miles from Nevada, died on Saturday last, January 21, 1899, after a long season of ill health, aged 80 years. He was born in Kentuckey, but while yet a child his parents moved to Greencastle, Ind. There he grew to manhood, and, in theyear 1839, he was married to Margaret Poe. In 1846 they came to Iowa and settled in Jasper county. After seven years they came to Story county and settled in the eastern part of Nevada township and he continued to live there until his death. He was a good citizen, and an upright man. There were ten children by the first marriage. His wife died in 1862, and in 1864 he was again married to Elizabeth Sharp*. There are two children by this marriage. Two of them are not living.

The funeral was held at Hickory Grove on Tuesday, 24th, and was conducted by Rev. Ferguson, of Maxwell, assisted by Rev. Beecham of Gilbert Station. The remains were then laid beside those of his first wife in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. George Fry, of Nevada, and John Fry, of Iowa Center, are sons.

SUBIMITTER'S NOTE: Elizabeth Sharp was born Elizabeth Wantz. She married firstly Gabriel I. Sharp in 1856. She had three known Sharp children and was widowed in 1861.
