From Story County Watchman July 22, 1898

On Wednesday Saml Reed died at his home in McCallsburg at quite an advanced age. He had been sick for some time and the end was not unexpected. He has been a resident of this county for many years and formerly was a resident of this city having an interest in a store here. He engaged in mercantile business at McCallsburg but recently turned it over to his sons who are now running the business. The funeral take place today from his residence at that place the remains wil be interred in the cemetery at Zearing.
