From Story County Watchman December 31, 1897

On Sunday morning Jason Billings and wife of Grant, lost the 10 year old boy by diptheria. This is the neighborhood that had a seige of the scourge a few weeks since and it was hoped that it had been stamped out but shuch does not appear to have been the case. The authorities there say that it will now be effectually ended and are taking steps to that end.

Little Guy Billings, 10-year-old son of Jason Billings, east of town died at the home with diptheria last Sunday morning at 3 o'clock. He was a bright little fellow and the stroke was a hard one on his parents.
