From Story County Watchman December 24, 1897

DIED.--In Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday lst Mrs. L. M. Scammon, aged 65 years. The remains Monday were taken to Lighthouse Point, Ill., for interment. She was quite well acquainted with many of our people who will remember her as the mother of Charles L. Covel, who formerly was in business here. Also related to Mrs. L. W. King* and Mr. E. A. Wood*. She made her home in California for several years but something over a year ago came to Des Moines had has since made her home with her son. Those of our people knowing the party extend to them their sympathy.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "Mrs. L. W. King" is Salina Malica Wood who married Lemuel Willis King. She is the sister of Mrs. Scammon. "Mr. E. A. Wood" is Mrs. Scammon's brother, Ezra Anson Wood.
