Maxwell.

Death entered our town on last Sabbath, Dec. 12th, and took one of the oldest men, viz. John Brodie, Sr. Mr. B. was turned into his 81st year. For some years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Dr. Joor. Owing to ill health he was confined mainly to the house. He became worse some time ago, and continued to fail until the end came. Mr. B. was born in Scotland, came to America in 1855, and first settled in Ill. He came to Iowa in 1879, and settled near Iowa Center. He continued to live on a farm until coming to Maxwell. Mr. B. was a very quiet and inoffensive man, well liked by all his neighbors. He leaves a highly respected family.

Rev. Ferguson conducted a funeral service at the house of Dr. Joor, at 4 p. m. on Tuesday, Mrs. F. W. Hill presided at the organ Mrs. M. E. Smith, Mrs. C. E. John, I. Fleming and C. M. Denny furnished the songs. The remains were taken by the sons, John and William, to Willington, Ill. to be interred in the family lot at that place.
