From Story County Watchman June 18, 1897

Maxwell.

Geo. W. Corke died at the home of his uncle, John Brodie, Jr., on Thursday, June 10, after an illness of several week's duration. He was born at Marseilles, LaSalle county, Illinois, October 27, 1868, and was therefore in his 29th year. His father was a soldier in the late war, being a member of the 10th Illinois infantry. His mother was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brodie Sr., who are now making their home with their daughter, Mrs. Dr. Joor, in this place. George was a harness maker by trade, and worked in different places since coming to Iowa in 1884. He was a young man of some excellent traits, and had a large circle of friends, who deeply regret his early death. The funeral took place at 10 a. m. on Sabbath in the Christina church. The Maxwell male quartette furnished very fine music, with Mrs. Dr. Scott at the orfan. Rev. Ferguson conduced the religious services, assisted by Rev. McVicker. The interment took place in the cemetery at Iowa Center, and was conducted by the K. P. order, of which he was a member.
