Maxwell Tribune: ....Willie Kyle died Tuesday night and was buried Wednesday morning....

From Story County Watchman January 15, 1897

Maxwell.

Sometime ago Willie Kyle, son of Joseph Kyle, was taken sick with sore-throat. It was soon pronounced diptheria, and the family quarantined. The throat was so affected that tube had to be inserted in order that he might breathe better. It was thought he was improving until last Tuesday night, when he grew worse and soon died. It is now reported that Hazel, daughter of S. E. Cooper, is sick with the same trouble, and the house has been quarantined. It is feared that the school and public meetings may be suspended for a time at least.

In the same paper:

Maxwell Tribune: Died, on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1897, at the home of his parents, Willie, only child of Mr. and Mrs. James Kyle....
