From Story County Watchman December 4, 1896
Ames Watchman.
Last week we noted the serious illness of Geo. B. Kooser and we now give it that he passed to that home beyond the skies on Thursday and the funeral was held Friday from the M. E. church with the usual ceremonies. He had been a resident of Ames for great many years and was well and favorably known to all our people.
Mr. Kooser was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1833, where he grew to manhood together with such men as Capt. I. L. Smith, S. S. Statler and J. D. Ferner. In 1855 he immigrated to Story county and located on his farm in Milford township. Two years later having established his home, he made a trip back to Pennsylvania, married Miss Margaret Boucher and returned with her to Iowa. About three years ago he and Mrs. Kooser made another trip back to Pennsylvania, which we believe was his only visit there since his marriage. They continued to reside on the home farm until very recently, when they moved into Ames. Mr. Kooser is survived by his widow and eleven children, who mourn th loss of a worthy husband and father. His other near surviving relatives are two sisters, one in Michigan and one in Pennsylvania. He was one of the best known men in his section of the county, a hardy pioneer and an upright citizen. He died at the age of sixty-three years, six months and seven days.
