Joseph P. Hand, who formerly lived in this neighborhood died at the homeof his brother, George Hand, in Marshalltown, on Sabbath evening the 15th. The remains were brought to Peoria where the funeral was held on Tuesday at 11 a. m. The services were conducted by Rev. Doty of this place, assisted by Rev. Ferguson, after which the interment was made in the Peoria Cemetery. Mr. Hand was born in Putnam county, Ohio, but came to Iowa 1854, and settled in Story county, near Iowa Center. He was a good man and very highly esteemed by all who knew him. A few years since he was paralized since which time he has lived among his children. He was the father of Mrs. Grant Whittaker, near Iowa Center.
