From Story County Watchman May 22, 1896

OBITUARY.--Died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Adams in this city, Friday night May 15, 1896, their son Oscar, aged 18 years 11 months and 5 days.

Some months ago Oscar was very sick and for a time his life was despaired of; but he recovered from the attack, though his vital resources were impaired. On Monday of the week of his death there was a return of the same malady. His sufferings were very severe and such was the nature of the disease that anesthetics could not be used, so there was no mitigation of the pain to the last. He bore his sufferings with unusual patience and courage for one of his age. In his last hours he sought the consolation of religiion and asked his friends to pray for him, and was comforted by their singing for him "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Sweetly Resting." Oscar was a good boy, obedient, kind hearted, and trustworthy. His parents loved him much, and are greatly bereaved in his early death.

"That fairest flower, no sooner blown than blasted,
That silken primrose, fading timelessly."

The community was deeply touched by his death as was evidenced by the very large attendance unpon the funeral service. Rev. Horsewell conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Henderson. The class in the public school of which Oscar was a member attended with the teacher, and at the cemetery dropped sweet flowers into the grave.

Mr. and Mrs. Adams and family have every assurance of the sympathy of their large circle of friends and for many acts of kindness done them and theirs they desire to make their grateful acknowledgements.

From the bereaved home comes this sad refrain:
"A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we love is stilled,
A place is vacant here on earth,
But one in heaven is filled."
