From Story County Watchman April 3, 1896
Saturday it was ascertained that Fred Corelieus, of Cambridge, had committed suicide by cutting his lower leg with a razor thus allowing it to bleed freely, and possible as painlessly as in any other way. It had been noticed that he had not been seen for over a day and when investigation was had it was found as stated. When found he was lying on the floor of his harness shop. Coroner Hazlett was notified and was soon upon the scene and impanneled a jury as follows: A. W. Bartlett, Edgar John, and B. J. Talbott, who returned verdict that he came to his death by his own hand while under mental aberration. He was a native of Sweden and has been a resident of Cambridge for a dozen years. He was a good workman but addicted strong drink, which coupled with a trouble with one of his legs probably created the temporary insanity which led to the act. His daughter Mrs. Houriken, of Ottumwa, arrived in the afternoon of Sunday. The funeral was under the direction of Rev. Williams of the M. E. church, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery there.
