John Kielly Sr. died Sunday at Cedar Falls

Former Resident of State Center died after three weeks illness

John Kielly, Sr., former resident of State Center and father of Hugh and Will Kielly of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Katherine Gorman, at Cedar Falls, Sunday morning at 2:30, after three weeks illness due to his advanced age.

Mr. Kielly was born March 17, 1839 in County Limerick, Ireland, and while a young man came to America, settling in Freeport, Illinois. His early life was spent working for the Central Illinois railroad. In 1863 Mr. Kielly married Miss Margaret Smith, of Freeport and in 1867 they came to Iowa, settling on a farm near Colo. Mrs. Kielly died in 1895 and in 1903 Mr. Kielly moved to State Center, where he lived until 1918, when he went to live with his daughter at Cedar Falls.

Mr. Kielly was the father of eight children, seven of whom are living. They are John Kielly, Jr., Marshalltown; Hugh and William of this city; Edward of Des Moines; Mrs. Gorman, Cedar Falls; Mrs. P. W. Sinnott, Osceola; and Mrs. P. E. Sinnott, of Janesville. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive.

The body was brought to State Center to the Hugh Kielly home on Monday morning and funeral services were held from the St. Joseph's church of this city on Tuesday morning at 9:30, in charge of Rev. J. F. Frein of St. Anthony. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery at Nevada beside his wife.
