From Story County Watchman March 20, 1896

OBITUARY.--Mrs. George McNaughton, the affectionate wife of George McNaughton, lived two and a half miles west of Gilbert Station, departed this life February 22, 1896, very suddenly. Her maiden name was Rose E. Cloud, was born in Johnson county, Iowa, March 15, 1858, and was 37 years, 11 months and 14 days old. In marrying Mr. McNaughton she assumed the responsibility of mother to his six children, all of which are quite young. She proved kind and gentler to these motherless ones who learned to love and obey her. A large concourse of sorrowing and sympathizing relatives and friends attended the services at the Zenorsville church March 2nd, at 11 o'clock a. m. to pay their last respects to her remains. Many followed the remains to Ontario where they were interred at Roland. I take away from thee the desires of thine eyes with a stroke. --M. K. Hollister.
