From Story County Watchman January 31, 1896

Roland Record: ....Joe Johnson was born in Skaanavick, Norway, 45 years ago, died at his home in Roland Saturday, January 18th, and was buried in the Roland cemetery, Tuesday, the 21st at 3 o'clock. Funeral services were conducted at the east church by Rev. Holter, and were attended by an unusually large crowd.

Roland Ramblings.

Jo. Johnson died here the first of the week and Tuesday the remains were carried to their last resting place. He was a native of Norway and was about forty five years of age. He has been engaged in draying for some time and was one of our best known and popular citizens.
