Jared L. Smith died at the home of his son, E. M. Smith, near McCallsburg, the last of the week, at the age of 85 years. The funeral was held on Sabbath last and the remains were interred in the Nevada cemetery. He was a native of South Carolina but came to this county at an early day and resided in Story county for several years. Mrs. Oxley of Nevada was a daughter.
