From Story County Watchman April 12, 1895

Albert Bissel, an old resident of the west part of this county, died at the home of his son in Humboldt county, Thursday morning, at quite an advanced age. The funeral was held yesterday and the remains brought to Ames for interment. He was one of the older residents and was well acquainted in that locality.

From Story County Watchman April 19, 1895

The sad news was received here Tuesday noon that A. Bissell, who lived four miles north west of town, had committed suicide that morning by hanging. The evidence taken at the inquest held over his body tended to a belief that Mr. Bissell had worried hemself into an insane condition of mind, over certain unfortunate circumstances connected with his family. A few years ago his wife died in an insane asylum and his daughter is also now insane. He wished to have her enjoy the quiet country life and for this purpose took to farming but found that she would not leave the asylum. This was a subject of almost constant fret to him. The first of the week he had some business with Peter Jensen, and Tuesday morning Jensen went to Bissell's house to complete the transaction. He found no one around the yard and no one could be brought to the kitchen door where he knocked. He opened the door and the subject of the suicide was before him suspended from ceiling by a strong rope and apparently having been dead for some time.--Humboldt Independent.
