From Story County Watchman February 8, 1895

Word was received here Tuesday morning that Oley Lyssand had just died at McGregor, Iowa. The Knights of Pythias at once took action in the matter and Mr. McCutcheon stared for that city and was expected last evening with the body, which is to be interred in the Nevada Cemetery. Mr. Lyssand has been a resident of this county for many years and stands with all, having repeatedly held offices of trust in this town and county. He was a native of Norway but had resided here for many years. He was unmarried.

McGregor, Iowa, Feb. 6, '95.
Mr. Ballou:
I thought perhaps you would like something from O. A. Lyssand. He has been sick here a little over a week; was confined to his bed about a week. He was looked after by the Doncombe Lodge K. P. No. 36 of this place. He died Tuesday eve at 5 o'clock. He has no relatives in America; has two brothers in Bergen, Norway. I will be home with him Friday. J. R. McCUTCHEN.

Mr. McCutchen arrived in this city with the body on the morning train to-day.

From Story County Watchman February 15, 1895

The death of O. A. Lyssand and W. C. Abbott, at nearly the same time, was made the occasion of the passage by Samson Lodge, Knights of Pythias, the following resolution:
WHEREAS, O. L. Lyssand and W. C. Abbott both past chancellors of this lodge, have been called from the castles of earth to the mansions above, therefore
Resolved, That Samson Lodge learns of the departure of thse esteemed brothers with most profound sorrow and mourns for them as men of industry, worth and integrity, whose companionship gave pleasure and whose example was deserving of imitation.
