DIED:--Mrs. C. J. (Babbit) McDowel was born in Jefferson county, New York, August 27, 1827; was married to A. S. McDowel* September 9, 1847, in Wisconsin; came to Iowa in 1854; settled in Hardin county on the farm where they lived until removed by death. The husband preceeded her five years and three months. Ten children were born to them, the four (daughters) living were present at the funeral; also her sister and sister-in-law. The Angel of Death visited the home Dec. 21, 1894, to let the spirit go to its native home in the Paradise of God. The service was conducted by the writer at the home on the 23rd, in the presence of many attentive and sympathizing friends, after which the body was laid to rest in the Providence cemetery. May the bereft trust in the God of all comfort and consolation, that parents and children may meet again.
The old settlers of Iowa are passing away. Forty year residents were McDowel family on the same farm. A. W. GILCHRIST.
