The Ames Watchman

On Tuesday, Jan. 1, the sad death of Mrs. Whittaker, wife of Col. Whittaker, now deceased, occurred in Ames, at 7 o'clock A. M. Mrs. W. has been ailing for some time past but was ambitious and although not able, was up town one week ago Monday. Mrs. W. had a host of friends in this community who greatly mourn her loss. The funeral was held on Thursday morning, at 9 o'clock, at the home. The remains will be taken away for interment. The family is now broken*. Those who remain have the deepest sympathy of all.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: A subsequent article chronicled Mrs. Whitaker's sister, a Mrs. Hawks, who came from California and remained for a time before her returning home to California accompanied by her nephew, Harry Whitaker.
