John Brown died at his residence in Iowa Center on Wednesday, aged about 80 years. He has been a resident of that place for 38 years, therefore was one of the older settlers of Story County, many of whom knew him well.

From Story County Watchman October 26, 1894:

The death of John Brown, of Iowa Center, was mentioned in last weeks WATCHMAN. He was almost 80 years of age, and had lived in Iowa Center since 1855. His birthplace was Pa., but he lived some years in Ohio before coming to Iowa. His wife was Eliza White. They had nine children. Mrs. B., died in 1889. Both were members of the Baptist church. Mr. B. was buried on Friday 19th in Iowa Center. Rev. Ferguson of Maxwell preached the sermon and Rev. Force of Iowa Center assisted in the service. Mr. B. was an honorable and upright man in all the relations of life. His familiar form will be very much missed in and about Iowa Center.
