From Story County Watchman February 2, 1894

Edwin C. John, son of Samuel John, died in Perry, Iowa, Jan. 27, 1804. The remains were brought to our place and buried on the 29th. The funeral was held in the C. P. Church at 11 a. m. Rev. Curtiss read the Scriptures and offered a prayer. Rev. Ferguson delivered the sermon, and Rev. Doty offered prayer. The music was furnished by the M. E. and C. P. Choirs united. The remains were in charge of a delegation of the Train Men's Brotherhood of which the deceased was a member. Edwin had been sick for 16 weeks. The father and two of the daughters in the family are now sick. The family lived in Nevada a few years ago and also lived here for many years, and there is a large connection here.
