From Story County Watchman March 31, 1893

Otis Elliott son of Rev. Alfred and Lydia Elliott was born Aug. 18, 1886 near Enos Dale, Washington county, Kansas, died March 26th, 1893 at the M. E. Parsonage in Colo, Story county, Iowa. He was stricken on March 8th, with that dread disease scarlet fever, form the first he suffered with his head, but in a few days seemed to be on the road to recovery, when suddenly he was taken very sick and continued growing weaker until the death Angel came to his relief. Friday morning he called for his sister, clasped his arms around her neck, and said: "good bye Abbie! I want to kiss you good bye! During all his sickness he never murmured nor complained, only that he was tired and wanted to rest. He leaves a sorrowing father and mother, on sister and one infant brother to mourn while the spirit of Otis has returned to the spirit of God; He was a bright child for his age, loved his Sunday School and was always in his place when health would permit. Ais amiable disposition attracted the attention and love of those who saw him-too bright a jewel for earth to retain. The burial service were conducted at the home and grave by Elder A. W. Gilchrist. Many were the tears shed while the choir sang "He shall sleep but not forever" also The Bye and Bye." The body was laid to rest in the Colo cemetery.

This year before the violets
Had heralded the spring,
And not a leaf was on the trees,
Nor robins here to sing,
An angel came one solemn day,
Heavens glory to bestow,
And take our darling form our sight;
What could we, Lord, at noonday light;
But weep, and let him go?

How dark the night that followed
That dreary night of pain;
Those eyes now closed, and never more
To open here again.
"Dear Lord," we said, with broken speech,
"Grant we may love thee more
For this new jewel in the Crown
Where we had none before!"

MOTHER.
