From Story County Watchman August 5, 1892

Death of E. S. Hoag.

On Monday evening of this week Mr. Hoag had another paralytic stroke, from which time he lingered, mostly in an unconscious state, until 3 p. m. on Wednesday. His end was calm and peaceful as his life had been, and he passed away without a struggle.

Mr. Hoag came to Nevada in 1856, from the state of New York. His ancestors were the Society of Friends, the family in America being the posterity of John Hoag, who came from England about 1675. He was left an orphan at the age of ten years, from which time he had the care of his grandfather, sho was a man of much influence among the Quakers at Laurens, N. Y. Mr. Hoag was reared in that faith and clung tenaciously to its principles, illustrating them in a life of strict integrity and peace with his neighbors, regardless of all mere forms.

He was married to Sarah Grace Stoddard, of Knowlesville, N. Y., in 1852. She and her childrne, Dr. C. E. Hoag and Mrs. Dr. Monk, with a daughter by a former marriage, Mrs. C. H. Cobleigh, survive him and will tenderly lay the remains of this cherished husband and father in our beautiful cemetery this afternoon.
