From Story County Watchman September 19, 1890

DIED--Of Paralysis on the 9th of September, 1890, at the residence of his son C. W. Cook, near Colo, after an illness of eight days Alonzo Cook aged 81 years 11 months and 18 days. Mr. Cook was born in New Fane, Vermont, Sept. 12, 1808, he lived in Vermont until 1832, when he came to Chicago and was one of the early settlers of Illinois. In 1836 he married Mary Holton, of Northfield, Massachusetts, who with two children, Charles W. and Mary E. (now Mrs. Lloyd Cummings) are left to morn their loss. In 1869 he came to Nevada Township, Story County, Iowa, where he located and remained until his death. The funeral services were conducted at the home by the writer, after which the remains followed by many sympathizing friends, were laid to rest in the cemetery at Colo, Story County, Iowa.
