From Story County Watchman November 29, 1889

Monday morning Mrs. Con Leonard died at their home in this city after a brief illness, leaving a husband and children to bear her loss. She has been a resident of this city ever since childhood and was highly esteemed by all who knew her, as she was a woman of force and much worth. The funeral took place Tuesday under the directions of the Good Templars of which order she was a worthy member. Their resolutions are given elsewhere.

TRIBUTE OF RESPECT.--New Hope Lodge, No. 140, I. O. G. T. Nevada, Iowa, having learned of the death of Mrs. Nellie Leonard, which occured at her home in Nevada, Nov. 24, 1889, the undersigned committee was appointed to present a suitable tribute; and therefore offer the following: It is with peculiar sadness that we chronicle this death, for it seems she can hardly be spared, and yet we realize that we must give her up. Her family needed her, our Lodge needed her, and the cause of temperance in general needed her, for shw was fondly attached to this great moral reform, and gave her time and efforts in unstinted measure, to its promotion. In view of this bereavement. Therefore:
RESOLVED That, we deeply deplore the death of our Sister for we found her at all times faithfully at her post, battling for the right.
That, we truly sympathize with her husband, her children and other relatives in this time of great sorrow to them, and earnestly hope that their loss is her eternal gain.
That, we present a copy of this paper to the family, and also a copy to the City papers for publication.
