From Story County Watchman July 20, 1888
Perley Stultz aged 14 years died Sunday at his home in Milford township of a very peculiar case of blood poisoning. About ten days before his death he stepped on a sharp piece of corn stalk which penetrated his foot. It was not considered painful or dangerous at the time, but it gradually grew worse. Sunday they summoned Dr. Stitzell who found on his arrival that the boy was dying. Every thing was done, but it was too late and the physicians aid had no visible effect. Upon examination however, the Dr. found that a portion of the bone had decayed which proved that his blood had been in bad condition when the accident occured. Perley was a promising young man of exemplary habits. His death will be a sad blow to his parents who have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad affliction.
