From Story County Watchman April 27, 1888

Last week Andrew L. Johnson, of Warren township, was called upon to meet with one of the saddest experiences which it has been our lot to chronicle. He lost two girls*, one Friday morning and one Saturday morning by death from dipheria, and two more children* and his wife* are not expected to live with the same disease. To make it more distressing the neighbors do not assist him through fear of the disease and he has been attending to all their wants alone and any one can see just the shape he is in.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The 1885 census lists the Warren Township family as Andrew age 36, Maggie age 35, Annie V. age 11, Lettie age 10, Lewis age 7, Peter age 6, and Minnie age 2.
