SAD ACCIDENT.--Near Miller, Dakota, a sad shooting affair occured a few miles north about 5 o'clock p. m. Saturday. The facts as near a can be learned at the present time are as follows: Chas. Livingston, a young man about 21 years old, son of one of Hand county's first commissioners, a highly estimated and wealthy farmer, while hunting squirrels with a small revolver, accidentaly shot himself through the heart, instantly killing him. At the time of the accident he was alone in a claim shanty, therefore nothing more than surrounding circumstances throw any light on the matter. It is a sad blow to the parents and many others, by whom he was highly esteemed.
The funeral took place Monday and was largely attended, between fifty and sixty teams accompanying the remains to the cemetery. An accident occured in the procession whereby two more of the family came near losing their lives. A sudden stop in the procession caused one of the seats in the mourner's carriage to come loose, and Mrs. Hawthorn, a sister of the deceased, and an infant were suddenly thrown from the buggy and one wheel passed over Mrs. Hawthorn's body. The buggy being light it is thought nothing serious will result. The same stop caused the pole of another buggy to demoralize the top of the carriage containing the father and mother, and the pole barely missed Mr. Livingston's head.
Charles Livingston was born and raised in Story county, and left here for Dakota about three years ago, where he has since resided. He used to be a pupil of the Nevada schools, and was an exemplary young man and universally esteemed by all who knew him. At the time of his death he had accumulated considerable personal property and had 320 acres of fine land in Hand county, Dakota.
