From Story County Watchman February 20, 1885

D. W. Read, one of the largest stockholders of the First National Bank, of this place, died at his residence at Belle Plain, on Saturday last aged about 62 years. He was buried on Tuesday. He has quite large interests in quite a number of places on the line of road, and took particular interest in all things that pertained to this locality. We are not advised as to how matters will now be here but they will undoubtedly be all right.
