From Story County Watchman July 18, 1884

DIED:--At the residence of his son, T. K. Soper, on Saturday morning, Mr. Cornelius Soper, aged 84 years. Mr. Soper was born in Chenango county, New York, and moved to Monroe county when 12 years of age, and thence to Iowa in 1854, and settled in Lewis, Cass county, where he remained until 1874, when he removed to Story county, and made his home with his son. He passed off quietly with no suffering, having lived out his allotted term of years and like sheaf ready for the sickle. He was well thought of and esteemed by all who knew him. For about 40 years he had been a member of the M. E. church, but afterwards joined the Millerite. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Sabbath last by the Rev. Thompson, of the M. E. Church in this place who gave a good dicourse upon the occasion.
