From Story County Watchman April 20, 1883

DIED.--On the 13th inst., at his residence in Ames Rev. James R. Williams, aged 73 years and six months. He was an ordained minister of the M. E. Church, and entered the Indiana Conference in 1839. He took supernumerary relations and came to Ames in 1872, where he has resided since that time, taking an active part in all good works in that town. His last Ministeral work was in Sacramental Services on March 4th, 1883. The funeral was largely attended by citizens generally and clergymen from a distance. Rev. Harned, of Des Moines, preached the sermon.

Thus ends a long and useful life in a ripe old age, and one, that may be pointed to with pride by all members of the family.
