Iris Virginia Wing, 93, of Story City, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Monday, November 15th at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City. There was a visitation of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Burial was Tuesday, November 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
Iris Wing was born March 11, 1917 to George and Ethel (Burrows) Poynor in Wichita, Kansas. She married Roy Huls in 1936. During World War II Iris was a "Rosie the Riveter" and worked as a welder in the shipyards in San Francisco, California. Her husband Roy passed away in 1974. She married Monroe Wing July 31, 1977. Iris had lived in the Story City community since December of 2005. She enjoyed knitting, Bible study, gardening, and animals – especially feeding the squirrels. Iris was often known to ask people, "have you met my son?" as she was very proud of her family.
Iris is survived by her son Bill (Betsy) Huls of Nevada, Iowa; two grandchildren, Brett (Annie) and Brooke; one great-grandchild, Conner; and her brother Richard Poynor of Wichita, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and two sisters, Ethelyn and Maxine.
