THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 16, 2010.

Eleanor Esther Eggland, 87, of Roland, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will follow at the Roland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the church.

A memorial has been established in her name.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Roland has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Eleanor Esther Eggland, 87, of Roland, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will follow in Roland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Salem Lutheran Church.

Eleanor Esther Eggland was born Feb. 26, 1923, to Reuben and Elsie (Frank) Miller in Woodworth, N.D. She was confirmed in the church at Langford, S.D. She graduated from Dayton High School in 1941. Shortly after graduation, her family moved to Roland, where they had purchased a restaurant business. She lived and worked in Roland for many years. After World War II, she began dating Emery Eggland, and they were married on April 16, 1949, in the Little Brown Church.

After having a family, she was employed by the Roland-Story School District as a cook for 18 years. She enjoyed baking, playing cards and music. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland.

Above all, she loved being with her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Alan and his wife, Sara, of Pella; her daughter, Peggy, of Ames; two brothers, Norman (LaVern) Miller, of Peoria, Ill., and Dale (Shirley) Miller, of Coralville; two grandchildren, Carson (Chauncy) and Gracie; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emery, on Nov. 6, 2006; and one sister, Phyllis.

A memorial has been established in her name.
