Vernon Alvin Anderson, 90, formerly of Fayetteville, Arkansas, died October 10, 2010, at Andersonville, Tennessee. Born July 30th, 1920 near Story City, Iowa, he was the younger son of John L. and Florence Sowers Anderson.
Vernon was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as organist for many years and he also participated in the music program of the Story City schools. Following graduation in 1938 he joined his brother, Arnold J. Anderson, in establishing Anderson Brother Feed and Seed Store. He was a World War li veteran seeing overseas service in North Africa and Italy with the 91st Infantry Division Artillery. He was married on June 6th, 1943 to Marilyn James of Story City.
Changing careers, he completed studies at the William Braid White School of Pianoforte Technology in Chicago, Illinois, and then
moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1951 where he worked as a Piano Technician for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir and served as an Elder.Survivors include his wife of 67 years, his children, Marita (Wm. R.) Pratt of LaFollette, TN, Lyndall (Loren) Soden of Englishtown, New Jersey, Mark S. (Linda) Anderson of Cimarron, New Mexico, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, his step-mother, Grace Sowers Anderson, and his brother, Arnold J. Anderson.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 624 Elm Ave, Story City, Iowa 50248-1306 or a favorite charity. Condolences may be sent to Marilyn M. Anderson, 111 Acuff Lane, Clinton, Tennessee 37716.
