DIED.

Mr. Mathew Smith, at his residence, in Warren township, Story county, 8 1/2 miles North-east of Nevada, died on the 3rd of Sept. 1877.

Mr. Smith was born in Finroy, County of Antrim, Ireland, on the 27th, of Oct., 1812. He moved to Illinois, May 1866, and in April 1875 he came to Story Co., Iowa. In the latter part of June he was taken ill and never fully recovered, but was better and worse until death closed his labors here. He was a member of the Presbyterian church from his youth up to old age and died triumphant in the faith. He leaves seven children and a beloved companion to mourn his departure. The funeral was attended by a large procession. The sermon was preached by the writer from Rev. 14:13. Rev. F. M. Johnson.
