Monte Rasmussen, 54, of Johnston, died October 3 at his home from an accidental fall. Funeral services are pending.

He was born July 25, 1956 in Nevada to Carl and Mary Lou (LaRue) Rasmussen. He was a 1974 graduate of Nevada High School.

Monte was employed at Barr Nunn Transportation in Granger, Iowa and spent 30 years as an over-the-road truck driver and truck dispatcher.

Monte loved the Hawkeyes and was a lifelong Hawkeyes football fan, as well as a baseball enthusiast. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his yard.

He is survived by his long time companion Mona Rippel and her two children, his son Brett, daughters Nichole, Amy, Megan and granddaughters Kaylee and Brylee. Other surviving family members include his father Carl, brothers Mark and Mike, and sisters Cindi and Cristi.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, as well as his mother, who passed away in 2000.
